DEMONSTRATION TEAM HISTORY

"SMOKE ON"

A Message from the Demonstration Team Flight Lead

"The mission of the 2009 Virtual Flight Demonstration Team is to create an awe inspiring short film of formation aerobatics consisting of one 4-ship formation and one 2-ship opposing solo flight. Additionally, we are the VFS 27 ambassadors to F4AF, and other online virtual air combat communities, through the public release of the finished film. Our mission is also to develop the demonstration team pilot's in-flight precision, display planning, situation awareness and adaptive capabilities. Furthermore, we instill a very high degree of fighter pilot confidence through increased flying precision and aggressiveness. As a demonstration team we enjoy the challenge that comes along with creating, practicing, and perfecting a difficult formation aerobatic display. We each take pride in earning…not given…our position as a member of our small, but elite, flight demonstration team."

-Dunn, VFS 27 Demonstration Team Flight Lead

A Message from the VFS 27 Commander

The first VFS 27 Demonstration Team was activated over ten years ago and consisted of a small group of pilots
with a common purpose of enjoying the thrill of precision formation flying with fellow squadron pilots. At that
time the goal of the team was to recreate popular aerobatic routines performed by actual demonstration teams of that time. Over time the the VFS 27 Demonstration Team begin formalizing its routines and practices in order to promote a more precise team.

The recent history of the VFS 27 Demonstration Team can be traced back to November 2005, a few short months after the release of Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. At that time the demonstration team was reinvigorated and began to conduct air show preparation, whose main audience was the members of VFS 27. At that time the team was known simply as the VFS 27 Demonstration Team.

In 2009 the VFS 27 Demonstration Team also became known as the “White Lions”. The team was named in reference to the color of the team’s aircraft paint scheme that also included an emblem of a lion, which has been the symbol of VFS 27.

The demonstration team of today is a well organized group of pilots who continues to strive for perfection in their precision flying, promotes team unity, and has become one of the most enjoyable and challenging squadron divisions. In addition to recreating the air show routines performed by the most popular international demonstration teams of today, the White Lions also develop their own routines and maneuvers and continues in the VFS 27 tradition of an extremely fun flying experience.
